Engineering Manager - Developer Productivity

MANUAL is a fast growing Healthtech scale-up, aiming to be the healthcare provider that millions of people trust as their partner to a long and healthy life. Our platform allows users to quickly and safely diagnose possible conditions, get treatment and support them afterwards to live a higher quality life. To do this we are building an all in one healthcare platform which brings together world leading medical expertise and technical excellence.

As our product and engineering organisation scales past 70+ product engineers, the developer productivity, quality, and reliability grow into strategic levers — not afterthoughts. We’re hiring an Engineering Manager to lead our Developer Productivity (DevPro) team, with a mandate to systematically reduce friction for all product engineering teams across the entire software delivery lifecycle

Who you are

  • You’re an Engineering Manager with at least 7 years of experience in startups or scale-ups

  • You are passionate about developer productivity, quality, velocity & experience, and you enjoy partnering with product engineering teams across the organisation to continuously improve the software development lifecycle efficiency

  • You're based in Sofia (BG)

What you will do

Lead the Developer Productivity team

  • Lead and grow a cross-disciplinary team spanning DevOps, Infrastructure, Platform Engineering, and Quality Automation, operating as a platform / enablement team whose primary customers are our product engineers

  • The team’s mission is all about making it easier, safer, and faster for product engineering teams to build, deploy, and operate software — at scale and with confidence. You’ll set and evolve the strategic mission, priorities, and success metrics for the team, aligned with company goals

  • Ensure the optimal decisions, pragmatic tradeoffs and most efficient delivery of new features and improvements is achieved despite the challenges of resource constraints, evolving architectures, and competing priorities due to rapid business expansion

  • Be ready to “zoom in” and contribute to your team’s delivery with hands on work as needed - from architectural guidance & reviews, prototyping & implementation, testing, deployment, and operations

Grow and develop your teammates

  • Support the growth of your teammates by setting a high performance bar, providing actionable feedback and coaching, and identifying stretch goals and growth opportunities

  • Help the team partner closely with product engineering teams to build self-service capabilities that reduce cognitive load and reliance on ad-hoc support

  • Build a culture of learning, experimentation, and continuous improvement

Guide, coach and showcase best practices, processes and culture that help product engineering teams continuously improve their productivity

  • Define and build best practices and self-service productivity tools covering the full SDLC: service blueprints and catalogs, data catalogs, test automation, performance / API optimisation, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, runtime observability

  • Your primary users will be the other product engineers at Manual and you will be collaborating with the all engineering teams and other engineering leaders on the continuous improvement and evolution of our process, ways of working and tools that can improve developer productivity

  • Improve the quality, reliability and flow of the Engineering organisation measured by key metrics including (but not limited to) Lead Time for Changes, Deployment Frequency, Change Failure Rate, Mean Time to Recovery and Developer satisfaction

What we need from you

  • At least 7 years of commercial experience as a software engineer or an engineering manager / team lead

  • Hands-on background across a spectrum of areas:

    • Test automation, environments & test data management

    • CI/CD

    • Cloud infrastructure, Infrastructure-as-Code, and cost optimisation

    • Observability and reliability engineering

    • Internal developer platforms (IDP)

  • Ability to zoom in and out - be comfortable with getting into the relevant low-level details while also making the optimal tradeoffs for achieving the “big picture” goals

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills — clear, concise, and able to influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment

  • Able to work 3 days a week from our Sofia office

Other skills you might have

  • Experience operating platform or enablement teams (vs feature or stream-aligned teams)

  • Experience building internal platforms or developer tooling

  • Experience building and integrating AI powered agents & workflows for improved developer productivity

  • Experience with AWS, Terraform, GitHub Actions and NewRelic

  • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent is a plus

About MANUAL

Healthcare is broken. We’re fixing it — and we need your help.

Back in 2019, we launched MANUAL to to tackle men's health (starting with hair loss and sexual health). A few years later, we launched Voy with a focus on weight loss. But our ambition has always been bigger. Healthcare too often treats conditions in isolation, not people as a whole, and we're on a mission to prove there's a better way.

In 2025, we evolved from MANUAL into Voy, a brand built for the long game: supporting people through every stage of life, not just a single diagnosis. Today, we support over 1 million members across the UK, Germany and Brazil, delivering personalised care across weight loss, menopause, hair loss and TRT (with more categories on the way).

Ready to join us and change how healthcare feels for millions of people?
