We are seeking a skilled Linguistics PhD Student or Doctoral Researcher specializing in Romance languages to work as a project consultant in our AI Labor Marketplace. This is not a full-time employment position — you will be engaged as an expert project consultant on a contract basis.

Location: U.S.-based experts only

Engagement: Part-time, project-based expert evaluation work

Work Type: Remote

This project evaluates AI-generated text across Romance languages and their regional variants.

Languages needed include: Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Catalan, and Romanian.

Regional variants included in the evaluation:

Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Mexico), Spanish (Argentina), Spanish (Chile), Spanish (Colombia), Latin American Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), French (France), French (Canada), French (Belgium), French (Switzerland), International French, Italian (Italy), Catalan (Spain), Romanian (Romania).

This is a project-based consultant role. Consultants will be paid on a per-project basis; hourly rates are estimates based on anticipated completion time. Consultants control their own schedule, provide their own tools, and may simultaneously provide services to other vendors/employers (subject to those vendors’ allowances).

Responsibilities

Contributors will:

  • Evaluate AI-generated text in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Catalan, or Romanian
  • Assess grammatical correctness and linguistic naturalness
  • Compare model responses and identify the best translation or phrasing
  • Identify syntactic or semantic errors
  • Provide short written linguistic explanations

Expected Outcomes

  • Completed evaluation tasks with structured linguistic ratings
  • Expert judgments about grammatical correctness and meaning
  • Concise written explanations supporting evaluation decisions

Qualifications

  • Current PhD student in Linguistics at a U.S. university
  • Native, heritage, or advanced academic proficiency in at least one of the following: Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Catalan, or Romanian
  • Academic training in linguistic analysis
  • Experience performing grammaticality judgments
